Christmas with Nonnie and Don T.

Ella's first Santa Claus!

We were so excited to wake up so Ella could see what Santa Claus brought her. She went straight to her busy gears. It took her a while explore her "Laugh and Learn Living Room," but once she started playing around in it, she got really excited. We had a great Christmas, but I can't wait for the excitement on her face in the years to come. Jason and I hadn't really gotten each other anything for a couple of years so we went all out this Christmas. Once everthing settled down, Ella waved at me and said something resembling "bye-bye." That was probably the best gift of all.

Playin at MeeMaw's house!

MeeMaw said that she would keep Ella while Jason and I did some shopping and went to a movie. We went to see the movie "Australia," which was pretty good if you can get past the first hour.

Infant 2

Ella moved up to the infant 2 class a few weeks ago, now that she is mobile. The other little girl is her friend, Lauren. I think they get each other sick. The teacher told me that they hold hands at the table. So sweet! Ella has figured out that she can crawl beyond the living room. Before, we would take her to the kitchen or the playroom and put her down. Now she just goes herself. We caught her trying to get her toys a little early. That little stinker, I didn't know she even realized they were there.

Somebody is starting to look like their mommy!

Ella and Daddy were having lots of fun while I was finishing some work. If Jason said "ooooo," Ella said "oooooo." If Daddy blew bubbles, Ella blew bubbles. She was so cute, you can see I'm taking more pictures than working! At home, Ella has tons of toys, probably too many. What does she want to play with? My mouse and the remote control! Naked of course!

New Tree, New Camera

This year we put up a 12ft tree, courtesy of Sams Club. I love it! Also, I finally got a camera like I have wanted/needed for a long time! A nikon D80. It will take me a while to learn exactly how to get the best images but, in the mean time, this is one of my first shots! I'm so excited!

Practice Christmas

Jason Said that he was going to blow the yard today. I just couldn't bear to see him drag the electric blower everywhere, knowing there was a gas blower under the tree. Besides, it gave Ella some practice for Christmas day! My poor baby is getting sick. I think this time might be bad.

Too cute!

We are getting ready for the iron bowl this weekend and Jason gets to dress her up for daycare and our office iron bowl party, but I get to dress her up when it counts...Saturday!

While mommy is away, Daddy and Ella play!

While I was in Houston, Jason sent me pics via his blackberry (not a very good camera), but all pics were much appreciated and some were equally as amusing!! She was a little congested, which is why she is at the Dr. in one and asleep in her boppy seat in another. The one of her crying broke my heart. Thank you Daddy for taking such good care of Ella Grace while I was away.

I want to go!!

Ella would love nothing more than to take off, but she can only go backwards, so she ends up in some places that she didn't intend on going.

Ponytail!

Mrs. Becky, from Ella's daycare, suprised us today by putting Ella's hair in a ponytail. I can not get her hair up like that! I wish we could bring Mrs. Becky home with us to fix Ella's hair. Yes...I know...It's out of control..but she's bald in the back!! The great debate..to cut or not to cut. Hmmm..should I just let it go until I can get it in a ponytail (its in her eyes by the way), or should I cut it so it can all grow in together.

Nonnie and Don T. come visit!

Of course we had to try on Ella's Bunny costume because Nonnie and Don didn't get to see it Halloween. We wanted to see how cute she was! Um, "this carrot is yummy"! She's adorable!!! Afterward, Ella decided that she was thirsty, and she only wanted Don's water from a glass, we had never given her anything to drink from a glass before, but she knew just what to do. She spilled it all over her of course. She is always watching and learning! Later, she was watching cartoons in her bouncy seat and daddy didn't buckle her in, we caught her lounging with her legs up to the side. I wish I had a bouncy seat!

After Church Sunday

Ella looked so cute aftere church Sunday, we had to take some pics!

Halloween

Halloween was really hectic....we lost Ella's Bottle, we were participating in "trunk or treat" and we didn't know where to go, and we were trying to hand out candy to 500+ KIDS!! Anyway, we kind of forgot to take pictures, this is the only one from Halloween night. You can't even see my little bunny's face:(

MeeMaws House

We drove to Tuscaloosa Wednesday night because MeeMaw was making an outfit for Ella to have her picture taken in. Ella's Great Grandmother Lou is having Chemo treatments right now and it makes her really cold. It was 150 degrees in that house! Thats why Ella is practically naked! That is how she prefers to be anyway!

Hair Rollers

Since we are having Ella's 6 month pictures taken on Thursday, I thought I would experiment with her hair. When she got out of the bath, I rolled it in sponge rollers and blew her hair dry with the hairblower. I didn't really turn out. I guess I know what NOT to do to her hair.

I want my MUMMY!!

We are getting geared up for our first Holiday - besides the 4th of July. She is growing like a weed!!

Our Trip To Gatlinburg

Oct. 3, 2008
Jason and I really needed a vacation!! We hadn't gotten away since before we had Ella and we really wanted to do some things that we knew Ella could not do with us. So we figured this was the best time since seperation anxiety really hasn't begun yet and Nonnie was excited to keep her!! We wanted to get outside and enjoy the beautiful weather were having!! We decided at the last minute to take a trip to Gatlinburg. I purchased a hotel room on hotwire for a fantastic rate, we packed up, took Ella to Nonnie's house, and took McKenzie to work with us, so when we left at lunch we could drop her off to be boarded. I hated to do it since she had just had a long stay at the vet, but they really love her there and she is treated well! We arrived at our Hotel around 7:00pm, checked in to a suprisingly nice room, and headed out to The Alamo Steakhouse for dinner (at traffice light 2A - just average food). Then we headed back to our room to get into bed early. We had big plans for the next day and we needed our rest.
Oct. 4, 2008 We woke up around 6:00am (sunrise is at 7:30). Flapjacks pancake house didn't open until 6:30. We were the 2nd ones to arrive. After a quick breakfast we headed out to find the Roaring Fork driving trail. By the way, there are no signs, turn at the space needle (light #8) and just go straight (thanks mom) and you'll come out at light #3 - I think. Anyway - it was very quiet out. No wildlife, I thought for sure this was the beginning of an uneventful trip.

From Misc pics
Here we are at Roaring Fork Bridge in 2005.
Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail A five-mile one-way tour that is referred to as a "motorized nature trail". From the main parkway (Hwy 441) in downtown Gatlinburg, turn at stoplight #8 onto Airport Road. At the intersection, continue straight on. You should stop at the historic Bud Ogle Farm to get an idea of life on a mountain farm. You'll also have the opportunity at stop #5 of the self-guided tour to hike 1.2 miles to Grotto Falls. When the water is up in the spring, Roaring Fork Creek, which parallels the road much of the way, is a sight to behold. Other features include a waterfall named "Place of a Thousand Drips". No trucks, RVs or trailers are allowed because the road is very narrow. In fact, in some places, trees encroach right to the edge of the road. The markings on the trees are clear evidence why anything larger than a car is ill advised. The motor trail makes a loop and ends in Gatlinburg. At the stop light, turn left on Hwy 321 and return to the Parkway. The road is closed in winter. Expect to spend about two hours on this tour (three if you hike to grotto Falls), depending on what features you stop to explore. http://www.gatlinburg-tennessee.org/roaring_fork.htm

After we left Roaring Fork, we headed to the sugarlands visitor center (which opened at 7:00am) to get some trail maps for day hikes. We decided to hike Chimney tops first, we were told by a ranger that this was considered one of the most strenuous hikes in the park. We decided to go anyway. It was tough! 2 Miles uphill, over rocks and roots. It was like climbing 2 miles of uneven stairs. It was totally worth it though. When we got to the top, it was pretty narrow. Jason was nervous about us orphaning Ella. It definately wasn't a easy decision. But there were some other hikers there that had climbed it before and they gave us the confidence to climb up.

Geology Chimney Tops is one of the few instances of a bare rock summit in the Smokies.[1] Over the centuries, the bedrock atop the mountain has been exposed through natural weathering of the upper layers of soil strata. This rock is mostly Anakeesta Formation metamorphic rock, especially slate, phyllite, and metasiltsone.[2] The grainy, contorted capstones offer excellent footholds and handholds for climbing. Like most of the Appalachian Mountains, Chimney Tops was formed 200 million years ago when the North American and African plates collided during the Appalachian orogeny.

When we left there we decided to drive to Cherokee, N.C. to see what all the fuss was about. I know I had been there before but I didn't remember anything about it. It was pretty boring and we had the most horrible meal for $20 I have ever had! The whole place was pretty sketchy. Unless you want to find the casino or just drive the Cherohala Skyway and watch the whitewater rafters, float down the Occoee, just stay in the national park. We came back and on the way we stopped at Clingman's Dome, the highest point in the Smokies, and in Tennessee, and the second highest east of the Mississippi. I thought my legs had recovered enough to climb the paved trail to the top. I was still tough. When we left there we drove to the top of Ski Mountain to go to Ober Gatlinburg. Jason had never ridden the lifts or the Alpine slide. It was fun but we couldn't race because a whole section from one slide was missing. It should be illegal to charge what they charge for that place. We ended up just buying a bracelet that let you do everything as many times as you want for $18 a piece!! The only time we rode the ski lifts all the way to the top, a momma bear and three cubs crossed the alpine slide. WOW! Some people never see that in 10 years of trips to the smokies!! WE MISSED IT!! I thought my trip was ruined!! To be right there and miss it! I wanted to cry! All of the Employees were scrambling up towers trying to see where the bears went. They closed down the slide. Finally, they set off some fire crackers in the woods just to make sure they were gone before reopening the slide. We left there when we had done all that we could do. Suprisingly, the most fun we had there was on a water slide (in a raft)! We went back to the hotel, quickly changed clothes. We were exhausted but we still had to eat. Our hotel was beside the Ripley's Aquarium at traffic light #5. We walked from there, past the space needle at traffic #8 a few more blocks until we came to a resturant on the left called Calhouns. It said out front "Best Ribs in the South!" Well, I don't know if they were the best, I was starving, but they were really good. Everything we ate there was good. Kemps Ribs in Tuscaloosa are the best in the south by the way.

From Misc pics

Clingmans Dome At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is Great Smoky Mountains National Park's highest point. It is the highest point in Tennessee, and the second highest point east of the Mississippi. Only North Carolina's Mt. Mitchell (6,684 feet) rises higher. Clingmans Dome is a popular Park destination. Located along the state-line ridge, it is half in North Carolina and half in Tennessee. The peak is accessible after driving Clingmans Dome Road from Newfound Gap, and then walking a steep half-mile trail. A paved trail leads to a 54-foot observation tower. The Appalachian Trail crosses Clingmans Dome, marking the highest point along its 2,144 mile journey. Vistas from Clingmans Dome are spectacular. On clear, pollution-free days, views expand over 100 miles and into seven states. However, air pollution limits average viewing distances to 22 miles. Despite this handicap, breathtaking scenes delight those ascending the tower. It is a great place for sunrises and sunsets. Cloudy days, precipitation, and cold temperatures reveal the hostile environment atop Clingmans Dome. Proper preparation is essential for a good visit. Weather conditions atop Clingmans Dome change quickly. Snow can fall from anytime between September and May. Get a current weather forecast before heading to the tower. The cool, wet conditions on Clingmans Dome's summit make it a coniferous rainforest. Unfortunately, pests, disease, and environmental degradation threaten the unique and fragile spruce-fir forest. Dead trunks litter the area, and dying trees struggle to survive another year. Berries thrive in the open areas, and a young forest will replace the dying trees.
Oct. 5, 2008 We woke up agian at 6:00 am, had breakfast, but this time we drove out to Cade's Cove. We were still hoping to catch a glimpse of a bear. I didn't realize that it would take nearly an hour to get there, so by the time we arrived the sun had risen. It was nearly 8:00am when we were approaching the gates. Right outside the gates there was a large black bear eating white acorns along the side of the road. I'm not sure whether it was a boy or a girl bear, but it seemed like a nice bear. I was so excited!! Our trip had been saved!!!! WOW!! He came within 6 ft of our car. I really need to get a new camera or Jason was really shaking - beacuse none of the pictures are very good.
video
After we left Cades Cove we wanted to go Horseback riding, but not just on a flat trail, we wanted to mountainous view ride. We decided on Sugarlands riding stable. Jason and I chose the hour and a half ride. No one else chose that ride so it was just Jason and I with our guide, Gary. They told us that they never let the horses go faster than a walk but Gary told us once we started that we could get them into a trot if we wanted to. Jason was in the back. He was riding a horse named "Chance." He kept letting Chance fall behind so that he could "catch up" by racing up behind us. When we started up the mountain side, my horse, "Poppy", which I believe was indicitive of his age - not a flower, stumbled and fell onto all four shins while I was riding him. Fortunately, I didn't freak out. Gary said that I did the right thing by staying on him. Jason, however, did freak out! Everything was ok after that though. Poppy even got up to a trot a few times. It was a lot of fun. We didn't see any wildlife but just riding was fun. Jason lost his extra shirt and sunglasses playing with Chance. We recovered his shirt the next day. His Oakley's, however, are probably on someone else's head right now. We were a little sore but nothing like from hiking!!
video

After riding horses we really stank! So we went back to the hotel and took showers. We decided we would spend the afternoon in Pigeon Forge. We ate lunch at the Apple Barn (best food in Tennessee), went to the Tanger outlets and got Ella some great summer clothes for next year, and saw a show - Cirque de Chine (chinese acrobactics). It was great!

Oct. 6, 2008
We decided to sleep in so there would be a little relaxing going on during this vacation. When we got everything packed up to leave, we checked out of our room and headed back to the outlets. But not before we stopped at a Homemade Candy shop to get some goodies - its tradition! At the outlets we found Jason and I some fall clothes and we headed for home. Finally! I hated to leave - but I missed my baby!! I know she was being well taken care of, but I don't think I will be able to take another trip without her! WE LOVE YOU GRACIE!!

Ella's New Auburn Outfit!

MeeMaw bought Ella an AUBURN outfit at the beach. What's the deal? Even the Bama grandparents are buying Auburn! Well, our sweet puppy had to go to the Vet today. She stopped eating two days ago so we took her to the dr. this morning. Dr. Hamm, who is wonderful, she loves Kenzie!! She says that she has jaundice and is having some liver problems. We had no idea when we took her to the dr., that she might be this sick! We were really sad, so we let Ella play with her food to lighten the mood. We all had a lot of fun. We should hear from the dr. tomorrow if kenzie is responding to treatment.

Today we had to run some errands at the mall. Ella never complained once. She is such a sweet baby!

Sleeping

It took four months, but Ella's arms have finally stopped flailing around at night when she sleeps. She started sleeping through the night at 6 1/2 weeks but she always had to be swaddled to stay asleep all night. Tonight was the second night she has slept without being wrapped in a baby burrito. Suprisingly, she prefers her side and her tummy as sleeping positions....who knew! Now maybe some of her hair will grow back on the back of her head. We put her down between 7:30 and 8pm and wake her up at 6:30am. We actually may have to start putting her to bed earlier because its hard to wake up a sleeping baby.(breaks your heart)

Daddy's Softball Game

Tonight was daddy's make-up game from Tuesday. The weather was terrific! Ella loves being outside. She took her bottle and ate 1/2 a jar of bananas from a SPOON! Maybe we should try eating outside more often. Her cousin Cooper was there visiting Nonnie and Don, who came to watch Jason play softball. One of the players gave Cooper a softball just because he was so cute!! We had a great night and Ella loved watching the game.

Are you Serious!!

Tonight we tried bananas. DELICIOUS BANANAS! I couldn't believe she didn't like them. And with such an adorable bunny spoon.....I just don't understand. Oh I see....we don't like our spoon....is that it? If food comes in our mouth on a stick we refuse to swallow? We would rather suck yummy bananas off of mommy's finger? Are you serious? Well whatever works. There were more bananas on me and her than what could could have possibly slid down her throat! We will definately have to have a talk about this spoon problem.

Pass the peas please!!

I can't believe my baby is growing up so fast!! She prefers to play on her stomach, which is a totally new thing. Just a few weeks ago, she would cry after a few minutes on her stomach. Now, if I lay her down on her back, she just rolls over and trys to reach for toys. We had to take her to the doctor the other day because she had a rash. It turned out to just be baby exzema. Poor thing she is just like her DADDY!! She has been well lubricated and is taking less baths and the rash is pretty much gone! Also, she has started baby food. She really doesn't like the cereal.. She cries and gags when we give it to her. (I think its because of the texture) So we started with a vegatable. She tolerates the peas much more than the cereal, but still will only take a few bites. She wants to get her food much faster! I can tell she is eating them though because of the resulting diaper. It smells like horrible rotten peas. I made Jason change the first one.

Oak Mountain State Park

Today we went to Oak Mountain State Park to do a little hiking. We weren't sure how Ella would do so we picked a short trail that had an animal rehabilitation center at the end of it, so we could take her into the a/c for a few minutes before we hit the trail agian. She loved it!! She even fell asleep in the backpack! Also, I just want to say a big "Thank You" to Kevin and Holly Andrews for the backpack/stroller! It was really neat, and it gave Jasons back a rest while we strolled her around.

TV time

Ella is 4 months old today!!!
We try to limit TV time to just on the weekends. She gets to watch two 30min. videos a day at baby school. On the weekends, in the morning, she watches cartoons. This is her watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She is in the zone!

Baby School

Ella started baby school last week! I was so sad. I would have done anything to be able to stay home with her. It seemed to be much harder on me than it was on her. A couple days of adjustment is all it took and she was on thier schedule and seems to be having a good time. I have never seen her cry there, although I'm sure it has happened. We love her teachers and we feel really fortunate to have found such a wonderful daycare. It's right across the road from our office too.

Our sweet baby is growing up!!

Our backyard (before and after)

We were really excited to finally finish the backyard!! Its been 2 years and it was long overdue. We brought in a ton of dirt, built a retaining wall, sodded, planted shrubs and flowers, made a play area for Ella, and built a garden so that I can make organic baby food. We also added a fence and a sprinkler system, we couldn't even begin to water everything now that we had a front and back yard!! We love everything!!

Ella plays with Colie

Actually they didn't really pay any attention to each other, but it was a new experience anyway.

Andi's baby shower!

This is the first time I held Luke in a long time! Ella was really fussy but Erin knew how to make her happy!! Andi looked great even though she has been on bed rest for months!! We can't wait for her babies to be here safe and sound!!

Play time

Ella's new favorite thing to do is to stand up and dance in front of the mirror.
